Privacy policy
Techmo connects ChangeMakers, who organise impact work, with Volunteers who contribute their time and skills. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Techmo, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and whether you joined as a ChangeMaker or a Volunteer.
- Password: if you sign up with email, we store only a secure one-way hash of your password, never the password itself.
- Google sign-in: if you continue with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile photo and a Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password and do not access your Gmail, contacts or files.
- Onboarding answers: for Volunteers, your answer about previous volunteering, the causes you want to support, your skills, and a LinkedIn profile link if you provide one.
- ChangeMaker details: whether you are an individual or an organisation, your organisation's name and type, your mission, country, website and social media links, and your cause areas. The Techmo team reviews these before approving your account.
- Projects: for ChangeMakers, the answers you give in the project builder. Drafts are visible only to you and the Techmo team. Once you post a project, its description and your organisation's name, country, mission, website and cause areas are shown publicly on Techmo so volunteers can find it; your email address is never shown.
- Offers to help: when a Volunteer offers to help with a project, we save their answers and share them, with the Volunteer's name, skills and LinkedIn profile, with that project's ChangeMaker. Email addresses are not shared between ChangeMakers and Volunteers.
- Account vault and handover files: when a ChangeMaker confirms an offer, the logins they hand over are encrypted and can only be viewed by that ChangeMaker and Volunteer; every time a login is viewed is recorded and shown to the ChangeMaker. Files they upload for the Volunteer are visible only to the two of them. Neither is ever sent by email.
- Milestones and QA: the updates, links and feedback shared on a project's milestones are visible to that project's ChangeMaker and Volunteer, and to the QA volunteer who accepted the project's QA role if the ChangeMaker asked for QA support. While a QA role is open, other Volunteers can see the project's plan so they can decide whether to take it on. QA volunteers don't see the account vault.
- GitHub (optional): if you connect GitHub, we receive your GitHub username and read the languages and topics of your public repositories to suggest skills. We save your username and the suggested skills, not your GitHub access token, and we never post to or change your GitHub account.
- Technical information: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and a security (CSRF) cookie that protects your account. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
